Lady of the Mountain Church: A Sacred Stop on Biblical Journeys
Walk in the footsteps of Jesus and Mary in one of Jordan’s lesser-known spiritual gems.
Located near Ajloun in northern Jordan, the town of Anjara holds deep biblical significance and is a meaningful stop for pilgrims and history-loving travelers. It is believed that Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, and His disciples rested here in a cave during their journeys between the Sea of Galilee and Jerusalem. Today, this serene destination is home to the Our Lady of the Mountain Church, a place of prayer, reflection, and connection to ancient Christian traditions.
– The Grotto Shrine: A reverent space featuring a hand-carved wooden statue of the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus, placed within a cave-like setting.
– Pilgrim Hall: A spacious area designed to welcome visitors and pilgrim groups from around the world.

Anjara is recognized as one of the five places in Jordan where tradition says the Virgin Mary appeared. The site is especially meaningful to those following biblical routes through the Holy Land, referenced in accounts of Christ’s ministry in the Decapolis region.
